Five ways to make moving simpler

Most people will say that moving is one of the most stressful things that one can ever undertake. It often seems like there are a million things to pack, making it very easy to forget even the simplest item. Thankfully for those considering moving in the near future, there are a few simple things that everyone can do that can make things a little less stressful, and a little more organized.

Use a checklist. By using a daily moving checklist, people can easily keep on top of things. Even something as simple as calling ones cable or phone company can be forgotten in the last final days before moving. By writing down everything well in advance and checking things off daily, people can stay organized and feel their sense of accomplishment build.

Ask for references. Moving companies that have a list of references one can contact can be a great way to help one weed out the good from the bad. Hearing a bad reference can convince one that another moving company might be better, while hearing a good reference can help finalize ones decision.

Pack things up properly! By getting the right boxes, paper, tape and bubble wrap, one can make sure that their most valuable possessions will be well protected during the trip. No one wants to arrive at their new home and find that their favorite picture frame or family heirloom was destroyed. By packing things properly, people can make sure that everything arrives safely.

Eat light! During the last week in ones house before moving, it is good to make sure that heavy things like kitchen appliances and cookware are not still laying around. By planning on eating things that can be made in one pot or in a microwave, families can pack up the majority of their kitchenware well ahead of time, and not have to worry about it the night before a move.

Finally, a fifth thing that people can do to make moving easier is to give themselves plenty of time. Often times people try to move in a few weeks, which can lead to even more stress and confusion. When any individual or family gives themselves enough time, they will be less likely to forget things, and more likely to stay on top of them.
